RESTRUCTURATION DU CAMPUS SCOLAIRE ET SPORTIF DE FAMECK D’espaces cloisonnés à espaces partagés et vivants

Fameck, ville principalement résidentielle de la banlieue de Thionville, a dédié une zone de 15 hectares à ses installations scolaires et sportives construites durant les Trente Glorieuses, suite à l’immigration ouvrière.
En raison de leur construction fulgurante, les établissements d’enseignement sont déconnectés les uns des autres, formant un campus infranchissable aux potentiels inexploités.
« Comment restructurer le campus scolaire et sportif de Fameck pour générer un espace apaisé et qui profite à toute la population ? »
C’est la problématique qui a articulé mon projet de fin d’études.

Face à un bloc cloisonné et contraint, ma proposition fut de venir repenser le campus de façon fonctionnelle et paysagère appuyée par un geste architectural central.

Créer un espace décloisonné, apaisé et partagé, c’est la stratégie que j’ai choisie pour restructurer le campus de Fameck. Mon objectif était de générer :
• Un espace public accessible qui permette de desservir toutes les installations.
• Un espace de détente dans lequel on peut flâner sans présence de voitures.
• Un lieu de rencontre, de partage pour les habitants des quartiers alentours et de la ville.
Pour commencer, j’ai choisi de créer des ouvertures dans la périphérie qui était jusque-là clôturée. J’ai ensuite libéré le centre du campus et dirigé les accès principaux vers celui-ci. Retourner les entrées des établissements m’a permis de créer un environnement plus agréable et sécurisé devant celle-ci.
Une stratégie paysagère a ensuite permis de restructurer le vaste centre du campus. J’ai créé plusieurs axes de circulation principaux desservant les espaces partagés de la zone puis j’ai défini trois grands espaces paysagers s’appuyant sur les potentiels préexistant du site.

La Canopée : un lieu de rassemblement et de partage rythmé par des émergences végétales
Les Clairières : un espace où s’enchaîne des étendues d’herbes modelées par les arbres
Le Sentier : une partie dédiée aux installations sportives extérieurs liées les unes aux autres par un sentier arboré

Cette stratégie fonctionnelle et paysagère insuffle une nouvelle dynamique dans le campus scolaire et sportif de Fameck. Pour la compléter et inspirer un changement durable dans la ville, une articulation à la croisée des axes et des paysages a pris place au cœur de mon projet : le Forum.

Le Forum est un bâtiment qui joue avec la topographie en réponse à un environnement qui est aujourd’hui caractérisé par les frontières et limites. On monte sur ses toitures, y déambule et y profite de vues sur tout le campus. .
Le Forum tient le rôle d’articulation entre les trois paysages du campus. Les clairières montent sur la toiture, la canopée vient jusqu’à la place centrale du bâtiment et le sentier s’invite également sur la toiture pour en faire un lieu ludique et sportif.
Sous cette toiture paysagère et sportive, le Forum est également un lieu de rencontre, de partage et de flânerie. Il accueille une grande salle polyvalente dédiée à de l’événementielle, un amphithéâtre en lien direct avec celle-ci, un foyer et des locaux associatifs. Un décaissé joue le rôle de prolongement extérieur intime de la salle polyvalente. Des gradins peuvent y être utilisés lors des événements ou plus librement par le public, les écoles ou les associations.

Dans une ville où les frontières et contraintes dominent, un projet architectural peut insuffler un mouvement, une évolution. Le Forum, cette articulation centrale des paysages et des axes est le geste que j’ai choisi pour restructurer ce campus scolaire et sportif et générer un espace apaisé et qui profite à toute la population de Fameck.

RESTRUCTURING OF THE FAMECK SCHOOL AND SPORTS CAMPUS From partitioned spaces to shared and vibrant spaces

Fameck, a primarily residential town in the suburbs of Thionville, has dedicated a 15-hectare area to its school and sports facilities, built during the post-war economic boom known as the Trente Glorieuses (Thirty Glorious Years), following the influx of working-class immigrants.
Due to their rapid construction, the educational institutions are disconnected from one another, forming an impenetrable campus with untapped potential.

"How can we restructure the Fameck school and sports campus to create a peaceful space that benefits the entire community ?" This was the central question that guided my final-year project.

Faced with a compartmentalized and constrained complex, my proposal was to rethink the campus in a functional and landscape-oriented way, supported by a central architectural element.

Creating an open, peaceful, and shared space is the strategy I chose to restructure the Fameck campus. My objective was to generate :
• An accessible public space that provides access to all the facilities.
• A relaxing space where people can stroll without cars.
• A meeting place and a space of sharing for residents of the surrounding neighborhoods and of the city.
To begin, I chose to create openings in the perimeter, which was previously fenced off. I then opened up the center of the campus and directed the main access points towards it. Reorienting the entrances of the schools allowed me to create a more pleasant and secure environment in front of them.
A landscaping strategy then restructured the vast center of the campus. I created several main circulation routes serving the shared spaces within the area, and then I defined three large landscaped areas based on the site’s existing potential.

The Canopy : a gathering place for sharing, punctuated by bursts of vegetation
The Clearings : a space where expanses of grass, shaped by trees, unfold
The Path : an area dedicated to outdoor sports facilities, linked by a tree-lined trail

This functional and landscape-based strategy breathes new life into the Fameck school and sports campus. To complement it and inspire lasting change in the town, a central point at the crossroads of axes and landscapes has been incorporated into my project : the Forum.

The Forum is a building that plays with the topography in response to an environment currently characterized by boundaries and limits. Visitors can ascend to its rooftops, stroll through them, and enjoy views across the entire campus.
The Forum acts as a link between the three landscapes of the campus. Clearings extend onto the roof, the canopy reaches the building’s central plaza, and a pathway also graces the rooftop, transforming it into a playful and sporting space.
Beneath this landscaped and sporty roof, the Forum is also a place for meeting, sharing, and strolling. It houses a large multipurpose hall dedicated to events, an amphitheater directly connected to it, a foyer, and community spaces. A sunken area serves as an intimate outdoor extension of the multipurpose hall. Tiered seating can be used there during events or more freely by the public, schools, or associations.

In a city where boundaries and constraints prevail, an architectural project can inspire movement and evolution. The Forum, this central articulation of landscapes and axes, is the approach I chose to restructure this school and sports campus and create a peaceful space that benefits the entire population of Fameck.
