Khoreia : Chorégraphie urbaine à Volos

Volos, ville grecque entre mer et montagne fait partie de ces lieux en lesquels une vie spontanée et inspirante prend place. Où le rapport Homme/temps est tout autre...
Le centre ancien : Palaia, y occupe une place particulière, c’est en quelque sorte « une ville dans la ville ». Un lieu à identités variables, où les espaces inoccupés participent aussi bien à la vie de tous les jours que les espaces physiquement « pleins » et dotés de fonctions. Là, où les pierres d’anciennes fortifications côtoient l’université, la vibrance des boîtes ou encore des habitations. Cette dynamique sédimentaire permet de questionner les possibilités du « vivre ensemble » en conciliant ce qui n’est plus, ce qui a été, ce qui est, et ce que l’on projette…

Aujourd’hui, le centre ancien de Volos représente un lieu à haut potentiel pour le futur de la ville, mais il est aussi en un sens « menacé » par la planification et le début d’aménagements d’envergure métropolitaine qui tendent à y amorcer de grandes mutations.

A échelle humaine, nous interagissons physiquement, mais également subtilement avec une infinité de paramètres de l’environnement, trop souvent occultés dans nos interventions car non visibles.
Il me semble cependant primordial de prendre en compte les caractéristiques du lieu qui participent à définir « son esprit », afin d’être en mesure de communiquer avec. Le projet que je propose ne concerne pas seulement le fait de construire ou non, mais plutôt l’établissement d’une attitude, d’une éthique, envers ce qui existe. En faisant appel à la mémoire, la poésie des lieux, l’Histoire, et l’Homme...
Une façon de considérer un site et d’évoluer en son sein sans pour autant que les besoins humains ou le profit ne prennent le pas sur son identité. Par ce travail, je souhaite également interroger les sens, et les représentations spatiales, afin de susciter-révéler des émotions propres au lieu.

Ainsi, l’histoire de la ville croisée avec de nombreuses déambulations m’ont menée à observer certains endroits plus que d’autres. On trouve parmi eux, un rapport aux éléments constitutifs du paysage (tels que la rivière, la mer, les marécages), aux éléments historiques (mur d’enceinte, anciennes usines et vieilles bâtisses), et aux d’éléments actifs (commerces, bars, université etc..).
Ensemble, ces « micro-lieux » s’intègrent dans ce que l’on nomme « la ville ancienne ». Chacun à sa manière contribue à son fonctionnement, et apporte une expérience, un regard particulier à qui va à leur contact...
Aujourd’hui, je propose des moyens de dialoguer avec ces divers sites à la fois sur la grande et la petite échelle. Tout en pouvant aller d’un extrême à un autre si le lieu le demande (une « non intervention » peut également être un choix). Ces observations donnent ainsi naissance à un programme "éclaté" (ou acupuncture urbaine) découlant des manques ou potentiels identifiés dans Palaia, redonnant vie à ce cœur. Les interventions seront diverses, tant dans leurs formes que leurs fonctions. Connecteurs, gardiens de la mémoire, chemins... Allant de la fontaine aux oiseaux au café, jusqu’à l’aménagement d’une place de 2000m². Chacun peut trouver sa place, dans l’espace et le temps. Tout est question de ressenti, justesse et mouvement...

Khoreia : Urban choregraphy in Volos

Volos, a Greek city between sea and mountain is one of those places where life is inspiring and spontaneous. A place where human being and time’s relationship is different.
The historical center : Palaia, gets a very important status through years, it’s somehow a « city in the city ». There, forgotten places, and multiple identities areas, are as important as proper functionnal physical spaces, in their use.
Whatever they are, elements are talking together. Old stones of the ancient wall with the nightclub’s vibration, dwelling with the sounds of students paths in the town. By connecting things who used to be, were, are or come, this sedimentary dynamic can be considerated as a real support of the « living together » evolution.

Today the old Volos is a high potential area for the future, but in a way that is also « endangereing » the city by urban planing projetcs, which aim to open and transform Volos to a metropolitan city.

On a human scale, we interact as physically as spiritually with an infinity of parameters linked with the environment. Unfortunately, they often remain forgotten because of their finesse.
I however consider the awareness we have to get in the glance of these elements, mainly the spirit of the place. In order to be able to suggest an harmonious form of dialog.
My project is not only about the dilema of building or not, but rather about proposing an atitude, a vision toward the existing bodies. To make it real, my materials would be the memory, the poetic of the place, history and human itself..
I aim to propose a way to communicate with a place, and evolve along with, instead of risponding first and only to human « needs ». By listening and observing. Through this approach, my point is also to question how senses can be explained or felt in space illustration. That include an experimental work to reveal-enlight emotions.

The main places of my work have been chosen from walk experiences combined with the old town history. Among them : landscape elements ( such as river, sea, wetland), historical bodies (neolitic wall, old plants, derelict houses) and active elements (shops, university, pubs).
All these « micro-places » settle in what is called the old town of Volos. They each bring something particular ; an experience, a view, feelings..
Today, I suggest different kind of interaction on an urban scale, but also on the human one.
The point is to shape a spatial answer according to what each place « says » (an unbuilt design can also be a relevant answser).
This exploded program comes to point out strong places in the old town, and develop the energy inside. Those interventions are connections, bridges, or touchs. They are materialized through paths, stones on the floor, vegetation, bars, workshops, public space or bird fountain.
It’s a matter of identity in a territory, and more than that, an exploration of a vision as moving bodies we are, who discuss with architectural bodies. Through emotions, balance and movement..
